Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra
The Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra was established in 2000 and incorporated in 2001 by
composer, conductor, and pianist Robert Ian Winstin to fulfill a need in this area for a youth orchestra
that provides a
full symphonic environment for young musicians and allows them to play a wide variety
of professional level music.  Repetoire includes but is not limited to Classical Master Works, Jazz, Rock,
Movie and Broadway Scores.  New music is performed at each concert.
The Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra rehearses and performs in its own facility, the New
Colony Theater.  Centrally located in Portsmouth, Virginia, the theater provides a venue for a variety
of performances as well as a home for VYSO.  To accommodate busy academic schedules, VYSO
rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 – 5:00.
